
Once upon a time
AN ALTERNATIVE VERSION OF FAIRY TALES
"Once upon a time" (in Polish : "A bylo to tak") plays with fairy tales conventions and stereotypes, proposing an alternative world of fairy tales full of irony and absurd but also very close to the reality at the same time
What if the happy-ever-after of your favorite characters wasn't that happy after all?
What if the Charming Prince didn't want to stay with Sleeping Beauty once woken up?
What if Genie didn't have any wishes to fulfill?
Finally, what if Alice's adventures in Wonderland weren't just an innocent dream ?
Written during the first lockdown and directed mainly in our living room, through Zoom and in Parisian parks, after months of postponing and reprogramming, the play could finally be staged.
I had a pleasure to put in pieces and direct it with an explosive group of actors from our company Art-Ci Art-Là.
Adaptation of three short stories by:
- A. Sapkowski ("Złote popołudnie" / "Golden Afternoon", 1997)
- N. Gaiman ("Calendar of Tales", 2013)
- S. Mrożek ("Śpiąca Królewna"/ "Sleeping beauty")
